Katie is able to combine current physiotherapy research and the original Pilates exercise method to provide a safe and extremely effective exercise approach used in the treatment of spinal and joint problems. It is a most powerful tool used in the recovery of core stability and strength in people with recurring or chronic pain.
Personal trainers and Pilates teachers (that are not physiotherapists) are trained in normal biomechanics but NOT the pathology of injuries or the affects of chronic pain or abnormal mechanics or postures.
The exercises are guided by Katie’s comprehensive understanding of the mechanism and pathology of spinal injury and pain. This pathology can alter the recruitment patterns of vital muscles.
A very wide variety of joint and muscle problems will benefit from Clinical Pilates. It is best to discuss this directly with your physiotherapist to determine whether it is suitable for you.
Some of the many conditions it has shown great benefit for include:
Lumbar disc pathology
Lumbar instability
Non-specific low back pain
Chronic pain
Neck pain
Shoulder pain
Headaches
Pre and post-pregnancy pain
Sports injuries
Clinical Pilates is a highly individualised exercise program which is injury-specific, efficient and safe in the management of acute and chronic spinal pain.
